What is the Spear Programme?

We know that young people have huge potential. The Spear Programme is an employment support programme that helps 16-24-year-olds realise that potential, by equipping them with the confidence, motivation and the vital skills they need to succeed in long-term employment.

1. Who and what is it for?

If you’re aged 16-24 and currently not in education employment or training (you might see us refer to this as ‘NEET’), then the Spear Programme is for you. You might be facing a particular barrier to finding work (like a mental health challenge, or criminal record), or just need support to kick-start your career.

2. What does it involve?

The initial six-week programme is made up of a combination of group and 1-1 sessions, where experienced coaches help trainees overcome challenging attitudes, and offer practical training such as writing a good CV and mock interview practice. Each trainee then receives a full year of follow-on support.

3. What does it achieve?

We know the Spear Programme works. We’re really proud of our results: more than three quarters of those who complete the Spear Programme get into work or further training, and are still there a year later.

The Spear Programme is currently running in 17 locations around the UK and we're excited to be opening two new Centres later this year.
